American Exploration: Los Angeles, CA

May 2025

In East Los Angeles, the lowriders have a way of moving through the world with intention. What began as a form of self-expression among Chicano youth has grown into a deeply rooted cultural movement, where every hand-painted hood tells a story. Cruise nights along Whittier Boulevard are about showing up for family, for tradition, and for their community. That legacy continues through people like Cristina Pimentel and Monica Daneri, who grew up around lowriders and aim to create space and visibility for women in the scene and the next generation. The scene remains a reflection of East LA itself: proud, grounded, and driven by tradition.
